Chainle vs Wordle
I finished Chainle puzzle 65 by hunting a meaning that faced two clues at once. The same morning’s habit from Wordle — testing letter positions — did nothing for medal and post. Badge looked “right” the way a yellow tile looks promising, and it still lost 268 points to pin because post did not agree. I now open them as two different appointments, not two skins of one game.
What each puzzle asks
Wordle, on the New York Times, asks you to find one five-letter word in six guesses. Tiles mark a correct letter, a letter in the wrong place, or a letter that is absent. Hard mode forces you to reuse the letters you have already been shown. The help page says the daily puzzle resets at midnight in your own time zone. The answer is drawn from a list Wikipedia describes as 2,309 words. October 23, 2026 was Wordle No. 1952, edited by Tracy Bennett. The New York Times bought the game in January 2022.
Chainle asks for a linking word, not a spelling. Five rounds, one guess each, up to 5,000 points, reset at midnight Eastern Time for everyone. Several words can score 1,000. There is no account.
Archive and price
The Wordle daily puzzle is free. The New York Times Wordle archive sits behind a subscription. Chainle’s archive goes back to August 20, 2026 inside the game, with no subscription step. I am not calling either game “completely free” beyond those two sentences.
